Hennops February 2009

I have been agitating for some time for the Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa to have one day outings again. When this one was announced I was going to make sure I attended whether it rained or hailed. Happily the weather was very kind to us. Thank you Grant Fryer for looking after us.

On this occasion I drove a bit but as the participants would have noticed Sylvia drove in the difficult bits.

Hennops has a lovely 4x4 route with some quite serious technical bits.

Most of the attendees are in this picture. As usual some were hiding.

Paying at the entrance.

Adjusting tyre pressures.

On our way.

Good grief!

More grief!

And most grief!

Here we go - this is what we paid for.

Up most come.

Pay attention! Look where I am pointing! Go there! NOW!

Mind the step!

Running out the way.

Another one up.

Technical problem - perhaps the stone in front of the wheel.

People who know exactly what to do but nobody listens. (Onlookers)

Lets push this side.

Now the other side. No too heavy!

Time to get another vehicle to help.

Rope arriving - just wait!

Largest available vehicle descending in reverse.

Photographers in position!

And pull. (Wheel should be on ground to get traction on left front side.)

Attach another vehicle.

Land Rover to the rescue.

Three in a row now!

Or maybe not!

Land Cruiser getting wet and dirty.

What is in front - looking through the window.

Posing with down turned nose.

Left wheel up.

Coming down - looks easy - if you are so good you try it!

Fortuner with rear left wheel off the ground.

Looks dangerous!

Right rear wheel in space.

Quite big space actually.

The dust was not put in by an editor.

Real effort.

Another angle of the scene.

People who know what to do.

Cruiser flexing.

Rear left wheel not flexing.

Definitely not flexing.

Still not.

Jeep in action from the back.

Jeep in action from the front.

The view from the other side.

I wonder how often that axe has been used?

Doing it again just to prove it can be done easily.

Front right wheel hanging.

Another view - just to make you wish you had come along - if you did not.

Right back wheel churning.

Now where is the path? Left front wheel lifted.

Experts.

Land Rover lifting its left front wheel..

River crossing - many missed this bit as chewing preparation had started.

I hope the doors seal well and that there are not too many lower grommets missing otherwise it could be damp inside the vehicle.

The hill ahead.

Why are all those people abandoning their vehicles?

OK now I see.

The ascent.

More ascent.

Ascended.

River traffic - hurrying to the picnic area for lunch. Everyone else is already chomping.

Groups of chewers.

Difficult to get comfortable sometimes.

Local wildlife is quite tame.

Thank you all for providing the visual entertainment.
