Daberas

daberasadventures@webmail.co.za is their e-mail address to make a booking.

After leaving the Land Cruiser Saamtrek at Khamkirri we set off for Daberas which is situated on the Western border of the Augrabies National Park.

Occasionally, actually rarely, you find a real gem of a destination and Daberas is certainly one of those.

Our hosts were Hannecke and Kobus van Coppenhagen and they went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Also they are highly intelligent people and it was a privilege to be with them.

The weather was warm, actually a bit hot, so we decided to take the air conditioned accommodation. I loved the air conditioners at night.

The area is beautiful with varied scenery. It is a photographer's dream destination. The light was sharp and we used polarising filters for the first time. The biggest problem is to decide which pictures to omit out of hundreds.

We took lots of pictures. I thought I would post lots but then after a night's sleep decided to only set up a few.

Monday - 13 April 2009 - we arrived at around 11am and set off for the lovely house where we were to stay.

The pool at the camp site. The water was chilly - "refreshing" is what I think they call it.

The Orange River - picnic spot near the house.

The lovely house - note the major air conditioning bits.

Tuesday - 14 April

The morning started when Kobus fetched us early and took us on a dune drive.

In the afternoon we explored the area.

It is hard to capture the magnificence on camera.

There was a shorter way out but we wanted a last look.
