A little about us We are pensioners and have been on a number of 4x4 trips. We have enjoyed being members of 4x4 clubs and over time we have gained a great deal of 4x4 driving experience and fun by participating in club activities. The Hi-Lux has been sold. Thankfully it has gone to a friend, a good home, where it will continue to be loved. Over the years we have had many good times in that vehicle. It was the first 4x4 we ever owned and we both learned to drive in it. Sylvia also won a few competitions in this vehicle and although it was sad to part with it - three 4x4's were too many for us to use. We now have an 80 series 1FZ-FE Land Cruiser (and we take a ground tent when traveling in this vehicle) and a 79 series 1GR-FE Land Cruiser (and this vehicle has a fitted roof top tent.). We have met many wonderful people in the clubs we belong to and also on Francois Rossouw's "Radio Sonder Grense" tours. This is an Afrikaans club and the web address is www.rsg4x4klub.co.za. To reduce the overall costs we usually go somewhere before we join the tour and then we often also do something afterwards. Much of our earlier driving experience was through The Four Wheel Drive Club where we enjoyed lots of fun with friends there. We have posted many of our reports on the Land Cruiser Club - Southern Africa web site (I use links to this web site as it is easy for me to manage.) and we have enjoyed the company of many people we met through this club too. We tour a lot on our own as few people have the time or inclination to do the things that we like. After much reflection we have come to the conclusion that we would probably be classed as "extreme" 4x4 enthusiasts. The 4x4's are "our" vehicles and we take it in turns to drive. Surprisingly some good friends have invited us to go away with them more than once. Sylvia enjoys competitions more than I do. I retired at the end of 1998 - and we went on an Indian Island Cruise in January 1999.
