Brandberg Namibia - September 2010
After leaving Etosha we decided to visit the Brandberg to see the White Lady. So I set up my gps and headed for the White Lady Lodge. Wonderful guidance was given and we went directly to our destination.
One of our main expenses is fuel - and therefore while we are in an area we like to see as much as possible. However I will drive a thousand kilometers anytime to avoid a border post - hence we went south to cross at Klein Menasie/Rietfontein (S26.75645 E19.99939) thus avoiding one border crossing if we went through Botswana.
On arrival at The White Lady Lodge we decided to stay in luxury. There was only room for one night so we decided to camp the next night. However another room became vacant so we luxuriated again.
The road from Okaukuejo going south.
It is a wonder how these granite rocks piled up like this.
Lots of roads and paths leading south.
Our first view of The Brandberg.
We have arrived.
Arrived big time - luxury after six nights in a tent.
The dwellings are some distance apart from each other.
The scenery around the campsites which appeared to be really well kept in beautiful surroundings.
Sylvia outside the dining area and lounge which are some distance from the accommodation.
The area is beautiful and we went to see the White Lady. Included in the entrance fee is the guide who has a good knowledge of the wildlife in the area.
The White Lady.
This vehicle had a puncture in the tyre and we offered to help mend it - but it was not tubeless so we could not help.
The wind blew and the dust followed.
Our second dwelling - we had not noticed in the other one but there are no glass windows - only netting and the sifted sand wafted through and settled on everything. The showers were lovely and there was lots of hot water though.
A "Desert Elephant". These animals are able to survive in this area and they are a star attraction. They do damage to the lodge but if they were not there a major part of the attraction would vanish. This is a situation where the idea is to try and protect the possessions without chasing them away.
Sunset - a beautiful scene.
The road ahead on the way home.
On the way back we made two stops for bed and breakfast. The first was at Mariental at Koha Guest House (S24.59815 E17.93074) and the other at Red Sands (S27.51090 E23.30368) near Kuruman. Both these places are always on our preferred stop over list.
In all we did 6733 kilometers on this trip. Thank you Stuart Baillie - who serviced our vehicle before the Tugam/Tembe trip - the vehicle prerformed beautifully throughout our trips.
