Tugam / Tembe August 2010

Once again it was a privilege to belong to the Land Cruiser Club and be able to join Shaun and Lynn Cullen on a trip to Tembe Elephant Park. We camped at a ranger's camp and were able to travel in the northern part of the reserve. Thank you all for an enjoyable weekend.

To begin - we set off early for Tugam (S27.56753 E31.67436) which is a farm not too far from Tembe Elephant Park (S27.56753 E31.67436). These places are near Pongola in Northern Natal.

Sylvia near the gate at Tugam where we spent a few days from 3 to 5 August. Tugam is a game farm with lots of tracks in a pretty environment.

The hut where we stayed. It was comfortable and there was a separate kitchen. Every evening a barbecue fire was set for us and all we had to do was apply a match.

I like jacuzzis. Here I am looking serious while quaffing a cup of some sort of alcohol.

In some areas there is significant erosion.

Sylvia at a lookout point.

It was good to see that some are still alive.

The tall.

From Tugam we traveled via the Pongolapoort Dam to Tembe.

A delicious potjiekos dinner was included in the Tembe price and was enjoyed by all on Friday evening.

Now we are at Tembe (some time after 6 August and before 10 August) and some famous faces are shown - Hennie Kotze, Adolf Huster, Shaun Cullen, Jessie and Anton Bruwer. Evenings with the Land Cruiser people are always enjoyable.

Buffalos in the river (swamp) bed.

Some of the vegetation.

An Nyala bull enjoying a monkey orange.

The elephants in Tembe are large and majestic.

There are also lots of Nyala.

Zebras on the way to the waterhole.

Some more scenery.

Nyala bull looking back.

Nice tree over the path.

This young man enjoyed chasing us back.

Two generations.

So nice to cool the feet while you drink.

Fine old man.

What lovely teeth you have.

I am not quite sure what this is all about. This sign was in Tembe at the Mozambique border where there was a manned closed gate..
